Moving home? Here's how to stay connected with fibre broadband

Kiwis love a fresh start! According to Census data released this year, over 2.2 million New Zealanders changed address between 2018 and 2023.

While moving can be the beginning of an exciting new chapter, it also comes with its fair share of stress and logistics. From decluttering and packing to booking movers, enrolling in new schools, and setting up utilities, the to-do list grows quickly.

As we come to the end of Spring, it’s the perfect time for us to share some simple tips to keep you connected with fibre broadband when you move home.

Why choose fibre?

Fibre broadband doesn’t rely on radio waves, so it’s not affected by things like distance or network congestion. It’s a direct line to your home, giving you consistent, top-speed internet and it's future-proofed for the growing demands of modern households and evolving technology.

If you're house-hunting or planning a move, you can easily check whether your new  home is fibre-ready. Use our online address checker to see if fibre is available or already installed at your new home.

Three simple steps to stay connected during your move

Step 1:
Check whether fibre is available at your new home by visiting our website. Then contact your Internet Service Provider and let them know you want Enable fibre broadband at your new home.

Step 2:
Leave your equipment behind. If you have fibre at your current home, there’s no need to take your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) box and its power cord with you.

Step 3:
Move into your new home, plug in your modem and enjoy your fibre connection. If you experience any issues, contact your Internet Service Provider, they’ll handle everything from troubleshooting to faults.

What to leave behind on moving day

When packing up, make sure to leave the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and its power adaptor behind. In most homes, the ONT is mounted on the wall or located in a media cabinet. It’s set up for the home and will be needed by the next occupants. Your modem, supplied by your Internet Service Provider, should be packed and taken with you. You’ll want to use that at your new home.

Once you’re unpacked and settled, all that’s left to do is sit back, relax, and stream your favourite show from the comfort of your new place.
